Shelbourne ran out 4-0 winners against Limerick 37 at an emotional Tolka Park tonight to seriously dent Limerick's faltering promotion hopes and give Shels some hope of clinching fourth place in the First Division of the League of Ireland.
Taking to the field for the first time since the death of Ollie Byrne, Shels got the perfect start when Aidan Collins lashed home a long range shot after just ten minutes.
Mark Leech made it 2-0 on 26 minutes as he forced the ball home following James Chambers' good work to create the chance.
Limerick battled back before half-time but couldn't grab a goal back.
Shels eventually put the game beyond Limerick when Leech grabbed his second on 73 minutes as he headed in from Kieran Harte's cross.
Ciaran Quinn got his first League of Ireland goal to make it 4-0 just two minutes later as he flicked home to round off a memorable night.
