Cobh Ramblers consolidated their lead of the League of Ireland First Division today with a 2-0 win over Athlone Town at Saint Colman's Park.

Goals from Gareth Cambridge and Davin O'Neill in either half gave Cobh the three points that will see them lead the division by at least four points going into next week.

Cambridge scored the opening goal on 23 minutes with a tap-in from O'Neill's cross.

O'Neill wrapped up the win against the struggling midlanders three minutes from the end.

Cibh might well have won by a more comfortable margin but Athlone keeper Ciaran Kelly performed excellently to keep the home side out.

Following Dundalk's slip-up in Kildare, Cobh now have a six point lead on second placed Finn Harps and having lost their first two games in the league this season, are now unbeaten in the following twenty-five.
