Monaghan United extended their good recent run of form to move up to the sixth in the First Division of the League of Ireland. Monaghan ran out 3-2 winners on their trip to face Wexford Youths on Friday night.

Conor Sinnott gave Wexford the perfect start when he slotted home a twelfth minute penalty after Gavin Doyle had been brought down in the box.

Aaron Mooney got the vital touch in a crowded area to make it 1-1 on 26 minutes but Wexford regained the lead just minutes later through Pat Malone.

Malone headed in from Doyle's cross but namesake Willie Doyle would level for Monaghan shortly before half-time.

Doyle turned the ball home after Wayne Byrne's cross had been pushed out by goalkeeper Jason Russell.

Byrne snatched the winner for Monaghan on the hour as he powered home a header from Jason McCartney's pin-point cross.
