Shelbourne continued their excellent mid-season revival tonight with a comprehensive win away to Kildare County in the First Division of the League of Ireland.

The Dublin club eventually ran out 4-1 winners on their visit to Newbridge - recording their third consecutive league win in the process and strengthening their hold of fifth place in the first division table.

James Chambers gave Shels the perfect start when he skipped past the home defence before slotting home on 13 minutes.

Both sides went close before Mark Leech stunned the home side to make it 2-0 just before half-time. He fired over goalkeeper Austin O'Neill from long range with a superb strike.

After Philip Gorman had hit the woodwork, Stephen Cooling got a goal back for Kildare on 66 minutes but Shels restored their two goal lead on 71 minutes as Leech grabbed his tenth goal of the season.

Leech slotted home after Alan Murphy's quick counter up-field.

Anthony Flood wrapped up a 4-1 win just before the end as he capitalized on a defensive slip from the home side.

After the win Shels now trail fourth placed Limerick 37 by just six points.
