Dundalk continued their superb home run in the First Division of the League of Ireland tonight with a 4-0 win over bottom of the league Kilkenny City at Oriel Park.
After a scoreless first half, Dundalk scored four times in a half-hour period after the break. The win moves Dundalk back to within one point of second placed Finn Harps and ten points clear of fourth placed Limerick 37.
Trevor Vaughan put Dundalk ahead three minutes into the second half while Robbie Doyle made it 2-0 five minutes later. Tiernan Mulvenna made it 3-0 and ensured all three points for the home side midway through the second half and Shane Grimes struck the fourth thirteen minutes from the end.
Grimes had set up the first goal as he cut the ball back to Vaughan to fire home his fourth goal of the season, easing what had been a frustrating night for the hosts to that point.
Doyle tapped in from close range to make it 2-0. Mulvenna turned home his first goal in League of Ireland football just a couple of minutes after arriving off the bench.
Grimes wrapped up a convincing win with a low shot from inside the box in the closing fifteen minutes.
