Robbie Doyle 15
Referee : Anthony Buttimer
Robbie Doyle scored the only goal of the game after fifteen minutes to give Dundalk a 1-0 win over Shelbourne at Oriel Park in the First Division of the League of Ireland.
Dundalk boss John Gill opted to leave Philip Hughes on the bench. Although he has scored thirty-one goals for Dundalk since the start of 2006, Hughes has been in something of a dry spell of late.
The move looked to have been a wise one when Doyle fired home after some hesitant defending from the visitors.
Part of Shelbourne manager Dermot Keely's plans to look at all members of his squad saw former Dundalk player Anto Flood left out of the matchday squad and Shels lacked a killer instinct up front.
John Flanagan headed narrowly over the top as Dundalk looked to wrap up the win in the second half but they couldn't find a way past James Hussey a second time.
The early goal from Doyle proved decisive and the win moves Dundalk to within three points of division one leaders Cobh Ramblers.
