Saint Patrick's Athletic picked up a much needed win on their trip to Galway tonight, securing a 1-0 win which extends Galway's miserbale run of form at Terryland Park. Ryan Guy came off the bench to score the only goal of the game after the hour.

Galway had been the better side in the first half and Alan Murphy really should have done better in the opening twenty minutes. It was one of a strong of missed opportunities from the home side.

Guy scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half as he headed home Keith Fahey's corner kick.

The Saints missed the opportunity to wrap up the win when Gary O'Neill fired an 86th minute penalty against an upright. The kick had seen Galway's Regi Nooitmeer sent off for bringing down Glen Fitzpatrick in the penalty area.

The result moves St. Pats level on points with second placed Shamrock Rovers and staves off the challenge of Cork City - at least for the moment.

Galway United : Rogers, Keane, Nooitmeer, Fitzgerald, Reilly (Russell 76), Moran (Fagan 76), Foley, O'Halloran, Tracy (Glynn 56), Murphy, Faherty.
St. Patrick's Athletic : Ryan, Gibson, Brennan, Rogers, Paisley, Fahey, Ndo, Keane (Guy 64), Kirby (O'Connor 64), O'Neill, Quigley (Fitzpatrick 85).
