Kilkenny City secured just their second home win of the season as they saw off the challenge of Monaghan United who are again beginning to falter after some good form.

Tim Kiely gave Kilkenny the perfect start when he opened the scoring after only four minutes.

Michael Comerford made it 2-0 before the half hour when he slotted home after cutting through the visiting defence.

Andy Cousins got a late consolation for Monaghan - scoring his first goal for the club deep in injury time. However, the goal was never likely to prevent Kilkenny from securing what was just their fourth league win overall this year.
